Deadline for nominations. April 1st of the year the award is to be made.
Award criteria. The contributions to be recognized must:
- Support good stewardship of the natural resources ofSt. Croix Riverand/or tributaries.
- Demonstrate observable/measurable results, not just activity.
- Not be based on the work of paid positions involving river stewardship unless the contribution is clearly above and beyond the usual accountabilities of the job.
Examples of contributions: improved water quality, raised public awareness of a specific issue, creation of good public policy, protection of a resource via a land trust or wetlands restoration, results relative to specific threats (such as invasive species or river crossings), implementation of zoning ordinances that support preservation of community character, or economic development that is consistent with good river stewardship.
Other Guidelines
- Generally, the focus of the program will be on recent contributions.
- More than one award may be made in a given year. An award does not have to be made in a given year if no nominee meets the criteria.
- An award may be made to a previous winner if subsequent contributions justify doing so.
- The award is for living persons and primarily for those who have not already received adequate public recognition.
Who Selects the Winner? A committee of officers of the association’s board of directors.
The Form of the Recognition: a plaque inscribed with the individual’s name and the date of the award presented at the Association’s Spring dinner as well as publicity for the person’s contribution in newspapers of communities in the watershed.
