Are you ready for an adventure on the Namekagon River? Join the St. Croix River Association for “Paddle 2012”, May 20-25, 2012.
Plans are well underway for our trip on the Namekagon River. This section of the St. Croix watershed will not disappoint you — it has many different personalities. At times it will be narrow and wild, and at other times wider and more “civilized”. Depending on the water level, the river is pretty friendly; a few class 1 or 2 rapids, some rock/boulder fields to maneuver through, and generally a pretty good flow to make paddling a pleasure.
The journey will last 6-days, and cover 92-miles, perfect for both canoe and kayak. It is a partially supported event where we haul your overnight gear. Expect to unplug and reconnect with the natural world. You’ll challenge yourself, be inspired, and build lasting relationships with your fellow paddlers. Namekagon River communities will welcome you. There are rumors of a community fish boil, a taste of Hayward, a two story high Muskie, Tenkara fly fishing demonstrations, voyageurs, local history and lore, the list goes on. You will explore a national park and see an abundance of wildlife.
It is the work behind the scenes that ensures the trip will be safe and rewarding. Registration for Paddle 2012 will open the first week of January. Registration numbers will be limited because of the wild nature of this river, and to ensure a quality experience.
Here’s a video from the Hamline University Center for Global Environmental Education of our 2011 paddle down the entire length of the St. Croix River!
